- What is Public Key Infrastructure?
- Components of a PKI
- What is a Digital Certificate?
- A digital certificate is a form of identification for
use with web-based applications.
- The digital certificate is associated with the
individual s public key.
- The corresponding private key contains unique code that
is not shared with any subscriber or application. The
private key verifies the public key in PKI transactions.
- The certificate containing the public key is used by PKI
applications to identify the user.
- The Certification Authority is the controlling
application that determines that the individual with a
certificate is who they say they are within a specified
level of assurance.
- All certificates have the CA s signature on the
certificate for authenticity.
- The public/private key system allows data encrypted by
one key to be decrypted by the other.
